In so many different ways, we have given much to the world, and I am personally delighted to be part of the Tartan Week events that showcase the best of contemporary Scotland. I hope to see it grow from strength to strength in the coming years so that our families and friends can see April 6th as a great day for Scotland in the global community.

Comment: I'm proud to live in the town where the concept of nationhood and democracy was born, and to have portrayed Abbot Bernard de Linton (author of the Declaration of Arbroath) in the Arbroath Abbey Pageant. How many of our American cousins realise this document gave rise to their own Declaration of Independence and that the ruins of the abbey in which it was penned still dominate the town? As well as Edinburgh and St Andrews, Arbroath should be on the itinerary of any American visitor to Scotland. | ||
