A week-long Spring programme of events in Scotland

Issued: 10 March 2008

Scotland MapTartan Day is celebrated all over the world but where better to celebrate it than in Scotland? The festivities commemorate the very best of Scotland and the Scots, both at home and abroad.

March29th marks the start of a week of celebrations across Scotland when nine days of ceilidhs, concerts, music and drama, street entertainment, family activity days, walks and tours culminate in the historic re-enactment of the Signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on Sunday, 6th April.

Led by knights on horseback and followed by nobles and clergy, Robert the Bruce will ride through the streets of Arbroath to Arbroath Abbey, where he will oversee the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath, the document which announced the birth of democracy.

All the areas participating in Tartan Day Scotland 2008 are classic short-break destinations; so, when you add in a host of events in the week leading up to Tartan Day, Scotland has plenty of attractive options for great days out or an early spring break.
