In so many different ways, we have given much to the world, and I am personally delighted to be part of the Tartan Week events that showcase the best of contemporary Scotland. I hope to see it grow from strength to strength in the coming years so that our families and friends can see April 6th as a great day for Scotland in the global community.

Arbroath Abbey was the setting today, Sunday, 6th April, for the re-enactment of one of Scotland's most historic gatherings.It recalled the occasion in 1320 when the barons and earls of Scotland gathered at the Abbey in the presence of King Robert the Bruce to sign and seal a collective letter to the Pope to recognise Scotland as a nation state.

ATDS Scotland Launchsk Scots about the significance of 6th April in the Scottish calendar – and you'll most likely be met by blank looks, according to a survey by Tartan Day Scotland.

In fact, one of the events that shaped the nation – the Declaration of Arbroath – was signed on 6th April, 1320, effectively an appeal to the Pope to recognise Scotland as a nation state.

Scotland Map SmallTartan Day is celebrated all over the world but where better to celebrate it than in Scotland? The festivities commemorate the very best of Scotland and the Scots, both at home and abroad.

March29th marks the start of a week of celebrations across Scotland when nine days of ceilidhs, concerts, music and drama, street entertainment, family activity days, walks and tours culminate in the historic re-enactment of the Signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on Sunday, 6th April.

Businesses Add Flavour To Tartan Week

Corrieris have created a special Tartan Pizza to mark the celebrations. Italian-Scottish restaurateurs Robert and Peter Corrieri will be serving up the tasty tartan pizza, made from mozzarella, olives, peppers, chillies and sweetcorn, during Tartan Week from Saturday 31 March to Monday 9 April.

Traditional Scottish Ales, based in Stirling, the award-winning traditional and organic brewers based in Stirling, have produced special brews to commemorate Tartan Week. Sporran Warmer and Tartan Ale will be available at the Tartan Week Farmers’ Market at Port Street on Saturday 31 March and at the Bridge of Allan Brewery’s visitor centre, open Saturday and Sunday 12pm-5pm.

On Tartan Day, Friday 6 April, the Albion Bar will have pipers from 3pm and musician Ted Christopher will entertain locals and visitors from 9pm.

Macrobert celebrate Tartan Week with a packed programme of arts, theatre and film for everyone. In addition to the events programme there is a chance to design and make your own tartan or sample some Scottish fare in the café-bar.

The full programme of events taking place in and around Stirling during Tartan Week is available from all these businesses and other venues such as the National Wallace Monument, the Albert Halls, the Tolbooth, Stirling Castle and the Smith Art Gallery and Museum.
